CAPE TOWN Cape Town, one of the three capital cities of the Republic of South Africa, is the capital where the legislative body is located. Also known as Kaapstad or iKapa, Cape Town is situated at the foot of Table Mountain. Cape Town is the city located at the westernmost tip of the African continent closest to Europe. Being the most developed city of South Africa, Cape Town ranks second in population after Johannesburg. In this city, African, British, and Dutch cultures are harmonized. Climate: Winters in the city are mild, and summers are warm. During the summer months of December, January, and February, the temperature is around 15-27 degrees. During the winter months of December, January, and February, the temperature varies between 7 and 20 degrees. Rains are seen at a moderate level throughout the year. Places to See; Table Mountain: After exploring the neighborhoods and streets of Cape Town, take a look at the places you have visited from above. Beautiful beaches, ships and yachts gliding in the bay, historical buildings, ornate houses of the wealthy segments, skyscrapers, and shanty towns creating a contrast with this magnificence. All of them are under your feet when you climb Table Mountain. Cape of Good Hope: It is the southern tip of the Cape Peninsula in South Africa. Extending towards the sea, the rocky headland of the Cape of Good Hope is about 245 meters above sea level. Although the Cape of Good Hope is known as the southernmost point of Africa, the actual southern tip of the continent is Cape Agulhas, located 160 km southeast of the Cape of Good Hope. When Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias discovered this place in 1488, he named it the Cape of Storms because it received a lot of wind. According to historians, when Dias informed the King that he had discovered the cape, the King thought that this discovery would soon open the waterway reaching the east, so he changed the name of the cape to the Cape of Good Hope. According to some sources, it was later changed to the Cape of Good Hope with the thought that if its name remained as the Cape of Storms, it could demoralize and frighten sailors. Shopping Those who cannot return from the countries they visit without buying gifts and small souvenir objects; thanks to various handmade masks, wood carvings, clothes, precious stones, jewelry, etc., will return very happy. Fashion enthusiasts will be able to find what they are looking for in shopping malls and stores following the latest trends. What to Eat / What to Drink; Dining in Cape Town is a very pleasant experience since you can definitely find something that suits your taste. Fresh and exotic vegetables and fruits produced in the region, seafood brought from the ocean to the tables with various sauces and cooking methods, and Cape Town wines, the gift of endless vineyards especially in Winelands; are among the local culinary options the city offers you. JOHANNESBURG Johannesburg is one of the most populous and rapidly developing cities in South Africa. After Cairo, it is one of the most global cities in Africa. Johannesburg is a city with high potential for gold and silver trade. The first settlement started in the 1200s, but the discovery of gold took place in the 1880s. The Witwatersrand mountain range is quite rich especially in terms of these mines. Johannesburg International Airport provides the busiest and highest capacity airline service in Africa for domestic and international transportation. The city population is around 3 million 288 thousand. While it has a surface area of 1644 square kilometers, which is quite high compared to other cities, the population density is only 1962 per sq km. The city is shown among the top 40 metropolitan cities in the world.
