Our tour, after breakfast at our hotel in the morning, begins exploring Sheki, which has a unique structure with its rich historical past, architecture, art, culture, and cuisine. First, we start our tour with the visit to the Upper Caravanserai, which is used as a hotel today. After photographing the caravanserai, which will impress you with its courtyard and size, we take a break in Sheki, recorded in old travelogues as the most important silk production center of Caucasia, to buy silk products. The traditional shawl made from world-famous and award-winning Sheki silk is called “kelağayı”. Decorated with patterns unique to the region and used in daily life or on special occasions, this headscarf was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2014. During the break, you can walk through the historically significant stone streets and photograph historical buildings. Sheki's old historical houses are very similar to house designs in Anatolia and Istanbul. Generally built as one or two stories, the mansions made with traditional architecture such as mixed stone and brick exterior facades, large wooden windows, and bay windows are constructed in different structures to reflect class membership. After our break, we move to the fortress. Getting out of our car, we start exploring the fortress and the historical artifacts within it. First, we visit the Sheki Khan Palace, which was taken into the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list along with the historical center of Sheki. In the garden called ’Khan Garden’, there are two plane trees approximately 500 years old on both sides of the pool. After seeing the plane trees, named ‘Khan Plane Tree’ by the people, and the magnificent exterior facade, we begin touring the palace. You will be amazed when you see the decorations and paintings inside the two-story palace. All the facade windows are made with the craft of shaping decorative glass, where colored glass pieces are combined with wooden slats called shebeke by Azerbaijanis, without using any nails or adhesives, so that they fit into each other. We take a short break at the ‘Artists' House’ built with architecture unique to Sheki, where ceramic workshops and shops are located near the palace that Nazim Hikmet said, “Even if there were no other works of art in Azerbaijan, this palace alone would be enough to introduce it.” Then, seeing the Round Church built by the Russians from the outside, we stop by the workshop of the master who performed the shebeke restoration of the Sheki palace to get to know the shebeke craft closely. We try to learn this craft by experiencing it. Then, meeting our vehicle, we leave Sheki and move towards the Azerbaijan Georgia border gate (Lagodekhi Border Gate) with a journey of approximately two hours. Passing through, we move to Sighnaghi, one of the oldest and best-preserved fortified cities in Georgia, also known as the "City of Love". KARS - ANI RUINS - SARIKAMIŞ - ERZURUM
Our tour, after breakfast at our hotel in the morning, we set off to be completely captivated by the magic of this fantastic city, the recently shining star of the East, and to see the rich cultural and historical fabric of Kars up close. Our first stop will be the Fethiye Mosque, which was built as a church in the Baltic architectural style by the Russians in the late 19th century and converted into a mosque in 1985. This historical transition stands out as an example reflecting the cultural richness of Kars. Afterwards, we move to the Apostles' Church (Kümbet Mosque) built at the foot of Kars Castle. This church draws attention as a prominent example of Armenian-Georgian architectural style. The details of the structure offer important clues reflecting the history and culture of the region. Then, we take a walk through the streets of Kars. In this region, called the 'land of Ashiks', we witness the rich gastronomic and cultural heritage of Anatolia. We step into the gourmet world of the region by trying delicacies such as honey, kashar cheese, gruyere cheese, piti, hangel, kete, goose meat, and yellow fish. We visit the Stone Bridge, which has reached from the Roman period to the present and is still in use. This bridge appears as a structure emphasizing the historical and geographical importance of the region. Similarly, the Historical Bath offers us a historical journey as a structure extending from the past to the present. While wandering in the city, we encounter structures where we see the reflection of all the subtleties of Russian architecture and feel as if we are traveling outside of Turkey. By seeing the house where one of our famous poets, Namık Kemal, lived for a period, we witness the literary and cultural importance of Kars. After this natural beauty, we go to the Ani Ruins, which have been added to the Unesco World Heritage list. In the ruins located in Ocaklı village, right next to the Arpa River, which currently forms the border with Armenia, the monumental structures to be seen will be the Tigran Honents Church, Ani Cathedral, Monastery of the Virgins, Menuchehr Mosque, and Abughamrents (Poladoğlu) Church. After our visits, we depart for Erzurum. The Sarıkamış Martyrdom will be seen on the way. After a pleasant journey of approximately four hours, we arrive in Erzurum, the land of Dadaşlar. We visit the Yakutiye Madrasa, Çifte Minareli Madrasa, and Ulu Mosque. For Oltu Stone, an indispensable of Erzurum, we go to Taşhan (Rüstem Pasha Caravanserai), and for Cağ Kebab and Kadayıf Dolması, we go to our restaurant. After free time, we go to the airport. CLIMATE
It is generally a temperate climate type with rainy seasons throughout the year. Frontal and orographic rains are dominant. The presence of high mountains parallel to the coast in the region has created an environment for increased precipitation. Although not strictly divided, the most precipitation is seen in autumn and the least in spring. The region is also the most humid part of our country. Therefore, the annual and daily temperature difference in the region is not high. At the same time, winters in the region are not very cold, but they are rainy. Precipitation is mostly in the form of rain, although snowfall, frost events can be seen, and fog is frequently observed. Summer months in the region are also temperate. The average of the hottest month does not exceed 22°C-24°C. The average temperature of the coldest month is always above 0°C. Although cold air masses coming from the northwest affect the region from time to time, this effect disappears as one moves towards the east of the region. The region shows variations in terms of temperature and precipitation according to its geographical characteristics. Precipitation occurs as the cool and humid air coming from the Black Sea rises along the North Anatolian Mountains. Due to the high altitude in the Eastern Black Sea Section, the most precipitation is seen in this section. The average annual precipitation is 2000 mm (Rize 2300 mm). In the southern part of the North Anatolian Mountains, this value drops to 300 mm. The Central Black Sea Section, due to the decrease in altitude, is the section that receives the least precipitation in the region. Here, the average annual precipitation is about 700 mm. In the Western Black Sea Section, parallel to the altitude being lower than in the Eastern Black Sea Section, precipitation is less than in the Eastern Black Sea Section. The average annual precipitation is around 1200 mm. Throughout the region, the annual precipitation can exceed 2000 mm, especially in the Eastern Black Sea Section, and can drop to 600 mm in the Central Black Sea Section.
